Mirko Skoric, PhD was born on June 1st 1952 in Nova Krivaja, where he finished primary school. He graduated from grammar school in Daruvar. In 1971 he enrolled in the Faculty of Forestry of the Zagreb University, and graduated in January 1976 with grade point average 3.61. From 1976 he worked in “Mojica Birta” management unit in Bjelovar, and in period 1980-81, he was chief of the management unit “Lipik”. In school year 1985/86 he enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Chair of Forest Utilization and Mechanization at the Faculty of Forestry of the Zagreb University. He graduated with a grade point average 4.7 in time. However, due to war, he did not manage to defend his master thesis that had already been prepared. For these reasons, at the end of 1994, he enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade and in 1995 he defended his master thesis entitled: “Evaluating of nominal beech timber and cork density due to reasonable measure of wet forest assortments”. At the end of 2014 he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled : “Influence of producing technology and provenance on quality and afforestation success with Pinus nigra seedlings (Pinus nigra Arnold)“, at the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade.
PhD Mirko Skoric has been employed at the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade since 1992. Until 2000, he was director of the teaching base “Goc”, and after that, he became nursery production organizer at the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade. Thereafter, he was engaged as a professional cooperate at the Chair of Seed Science, Nursery Production and Afforestation”.
As for his scientific contribution, PhD Mirko Skoric published 12 scientific and professional papers (3 patents) related to forestry, and among them, 2 are published in SCI journals. He has been participating in numerous researches carried out in the nursery of the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade. In 1999, he established permanent experimental plot in Goc, where many researches related to narrow scientific field “Seed Science, Nursery Production and Afforestation” have regularly been performed.
PhD Mirko Skoric got numerous awards such as:
- In 1983 and 1988, he was proclaimed the most successful inventor in forestry in Croatia and Yugoslavia
- In 1989, he got the successful inventor award from Bjelovar Chamber of Commerce
- In 1997, he was rewarded by the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce and he also got a golden plaque with Nikola Tesla’s face for his contribution to research
