Petar Todorović rođen je 1943 godine, diplomirao 1968. godine na Elektrotehničkom fakultetu Univerziteta u Beogradu – Odsek za tehničku fiziku, magistrirao 1973. godine na zajedničkom kursu Elektrotehničkog i Prirodno-matematičkog fakulteta (smer Fizika jonizovanog gasa), i doktorirao 1983. godine na Tehnološko-metalurškom fakultetu, takođe Univerziteta u Beogradu. U periodu 1969-1970 radi kao istraživač-pripravnik na Institutu za fiziku SRS. Od 1970. do 1984. godine je asistent, a od 1984. do 1985. godine docent na Tehnološko-metalurškom fakultetu. U periodu 1985-1994 je vanredni profesor, a od 1994. do 2010. redovni profesor na Šumarskom fakultetu Univerziteta u Beogradu. P. Todorović se nastavnim radom, sem na Šumarskom i Tehnološko-metalurškom, bavio i na drugim fakultetima Univerziteta u Beogradu (Elektrotehničkom, Saobraćajnom, Mašinskom i Poljoprivrednom), kao i njihovim odeljenjima u drugim centrima (Šabac, Užice). Pored osnovnog dela naučno-istraživačke aktivnosti na Šumarskom i Tehnološko-metalurškom fakultetu, kao i u Institutu za fiziku, time se bavio i na Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, gde je boravio na osnovu stipendije dobijene od British Trust for Yugoslav Scholarships i Science Research Council of United Kingdom grant i obavio i veći deo eksperimenata za svoju doktorsku disertaciju. P. Todorović je učestvovao u radu komisija za izradu i usaglašavanje nastavnih planova i programa, kako na Tehnološko-metalurškom, tako i na Šumarskom fakultetu. Bio je član komisija za odbranu diplomskih radova, kao i ocenu tema, ocenu i odbranu magistarskih i doktorskih teza. Bio je i mentor, i predsednik konisija za odbranu više desetina diplomskih, jednog magistarskog i jednog doktorskog rada, kao i član i predsednik komisija za izbor nastavnika i saradnika. Sem nastave iz predmeta FIZIKA i TEHNIČKA FIZIKA, kojima se na različitim nivoima bavio na Šumarskom, a pre toga Tehnološko-metalurškom, kao i na drugim fakultetima Univerziteta u Beogradu (Elektrotehničkom, Saobraćajnom, Mašinskom i Poljoprivrednom) i isturenim odeljenjima Tehnološko-metalurškog fakulteta u Šapcu i Mašinskog fakulteta u Užicu, u svoj nastavni rad je uključivao i druge predmete. To se pre svega odnosi na ELEMENTE REGULACIONE TEHNIKE U PRERADI DRVETA, zatim izborni predmet PRIMENJENA ELEKTROTEHNIKA U PRERADI DRVETA na osnovnim studijama na Šumarskom fakultetu, kao i ranija učešća u nastavi na osnovnim studijama predmeta EKSPERIMENTALNA ATOMSKA FIZIKA na Elektrotehničkom fakultetu u Beogradu i SERVOTEHNIKA na VTVA u Rajlovcu. Na magistarskim, a sada master i doktorskim studijama angažovan je na predmetu SISTEMI AUTOMATSKOG UPRAVLJANJA U PRERADI DRVETA i u delu NEKONVENCIONALNE TEHNOLOGIJE U PRERADI DRVETA. Na području stručne i udžbeničke literature delatnost P. Todorovića predstavljena je sa 13 (trinaest) naslova i odnosi se uglavnom na univerzitetski udžbenički materijal štampan u više ponovljenih i/ili prerađenih izdanja. Bio je i koautor većeg broja udžbenika za usmereno obrazovanje i nekih studija monografskog karaktera. Sem opšte fizike obuhvaćene su i metode i tehnika istraživanja u fizici, metrologija, rendgenska i nuklearna zračenja, optički merni uređaji, servotehnika, kao i elektrotehnika i elektronika. Koautor je knjige „Međunarodni sistem jedinica (SI) u hemiji, tehnologiji i metalurgiji“, a takođe i saradnik u „Hemijsko-tehnološkom priručniku“, poglavlje „Hemijski i fizički podaci i veličine“. Vršio je i recenziranje većeg broja stručnih i naučnih radova, kao i udžbeničke literature.
