The University of Belgrade – Faculty of Forestry is pleased to announce that IN-SYLVA Europe, a European initiative in which the Faculty participates as a partner from Serbia, has officially been included in the ESFRI Roadmap 2026. This represents an important international recognition and a major step towards establishing the first pan-European research infrastructure dedicated to experimental research on the adaptation of forest ecosystems to climate change.

IN-SYLVA Europe brings together experimental forest sites, laboratory capacities, databases, information systems and modelling tools across Europe, with the aim of developing science-based solutions to strengthen forest resilience to climate change, drought, heatwaves, wildfires, pests, pathogens and other natural disturbances.

The participation of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Forestry will strengthen the integration of forest research from Serbia and Southeast Europe into the broader European research landscape and create new opportunities for joint research, exchange of data and methodologies, researcher mobility, and the education and professional development of young researchers and students.

Following its inclusion in the ESFRI Roadmap 2026, IN-SYLVA Europe is entering a new phase of development, during which partner institutions and participating countries will work towards establishing the future European research infrastructure. For the Faculty of Forestry, this creates an important opportunity to contribute, together with leading European institutions, to the development of more resilient, diverse and sustainably managed forests.
