Marija Marković was born on July 15, 1978, in Koraćica. She completed primary school as the top student of her generation and high school as a holder of the Vuk Diploma in Mladenovac. In the 1997/98 academic year, she enrolled at the Faculty of Forestry, Department of Landscape Architecture. She graduated in June 2002 with an average grade of 9.45 and was selected as the best student in the Department of Landscape Architecture.
In the same year, she received the award of the Karađorđević Royal Family Foundation as the best final-year student of the Faculty of Forestry. She enrolled in postgraduate (Master of Science) studies in the 2002/03 academic year at the Faculty of Forestry and passed all exams with an average grade of 10.00. She defended her Master of Science thesis titled “Possibilities of propagation of the species Dianthus deltoides L. by micropropagation” in March 2008.
She defended her doctoral dissertation titled “Propagation of some endangered carnation species (Dianthus L.) by micropropagation” in 2014. She was elected to the position of Assistant Professor in February 2015. She is engaged in teaching at undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral studies. She has been a member of committees for the defense of more than 60 undergraduate and Master’s theses.
Since 2004, she has been involved as a researcher in several scientific projects and has published and presented over 100 papers. As a co-author, she has written two university textbooks. She has participated in continuing education programs and served as a mentor in a program of the National Employment Service for the professional training of interns in the Tissue Culture Laboratory of the Faculty of Forestry.
In addition, she has several times been the president or a member of juries evaluating flower arrangements, planting material quality, or exhibition stands at flower festivals in Požarevac and Lipolist. Since 2024, she holds an FTSEE certificate as a guide for forest therapy (Mediator of Forest Wellness). She collaborates successfully with colleagues from other scientific and research institutions in the country and abroad.
She is a member of the Serbian Association for Landscape Horticulture (UPHS) and the American Society for Horticultural Science. She speaks English and French and has a working knowledge of Persian.
