Goč Ecosystem Resilience Living Lab (GERLL)

The Goč Ecosystem Resilience Living Lab (GERLL) was established in 2026 as an initiative of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Forestry  within the existing institutional and field-based framework of Teaching and Research Base “Goč“. It is built on previously initiated long-term, scientific and educational activities at Mt. Goč.

GERLL’s vision is to strengthen the resilience of forest landscapes and the communities that depend on them, by supporting adaptive forest management and improving the integrated management of forest, soil and water resources under changing climatic conditions. The Living Lab focuses on practical responses to locally relevant challenges, including erosion and soil degradation, changes in water availability and runoff, forest ecosystem disturbances, and the need to adapt forest management to changing environmental conditions.

GERLL mission is an open platform established by the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Forestry at the Teaching and Research  Base “Goč”. It brings a network of stakeholders from academia, education, public and business sector, and civil society to collaboratively develop, test and implement innovative solutions for the sustainable and adaptive management of forest, soil and water resources. GERLL provides an environment in which these stakeholders can jointly identify challenges, develop and test approaches to adaptive forest management and ecosystem protection, and evaluate them under real-world conditions. GERLL aims to translate research findings into tested and validated management practices, technical solutions and applicable knowledge that can generate wider environmental and socio-economic benefits.
