Chair of final wood processing

Chair: Chair of Final Wood Processing

Head of Chair: Dr. Igor Džindžić, full professor

Chair Development:

The Department final wood processing was established by the 1956 curriculum of the Wood-industrial Department. At that time, final wood processing (production of furniture and construction joinery) had  just started with industrial production. Classes in the field of final wood processing took place through the following subjects: Woodworking – home and construction, Manufacture of special wood products, Carpentry and other structures made of wood.

In the 1960 statute two subjects in the narrow field of specialization in final wood processing were merged into a new subject – Final mechanical wood processing and the subject Carpentry and other structures made of wood changed its name to Wooden constructions and joinery.
In 1962, the name of the subject Wooden constructions and joinery was changed to Constructions of wood products, and in 1966 the same number of subjects remained at the Chair of final wood processing.

In 1973, according to the Statute, all departments became institutes and the name of the Department was changed to the Institute for wood processing. This time two new subjects were introduced to the narrow area of expertise in final wood processing: Wooden constructions and Surface wood treatment. The new Chair of design of final products was established. The following subjects remained at the Chair of final wood processing: Final wood processing, Surface treatment of wood, Mechanical engineering with industrial energetics, Internal transport, Machines and tools in wood processing.
In the 1987 Statute of the Faculty, two new subjects were introduced to the Chair of Final wood processing: Technical Physics and Elements of regulatory techniques.

This state of affairs at the Chair of final wood processing remained until 2002, when the Department  abolished the Chair of final wood products design, but also established a new one –  the Chair of  machines and apparatuses in wood processing. For the first time, elective subjects were introduced to the curriculum. Most of the subjects were from the narrow field of specialization: Final wood processing, Surface treatment of wood and Constructions of wood products as compulsory subjects and Design, Furniture Design, Organization of space, Interior design and Upholstered furniture as elective subjects. In addition, the Chair also included the preparatory subject Descriptive Geometry.
Since 2006, the following elective subjects were added to the Department of final wood processing: Adhesion in final wood processing, Wood in construction, Engineering Graphics and Introduction to methodical design.

In the academic year 2007/2008 began the first a master’s degree program at the Wood processing department and the Chair of final wood processing consisted of two modules: Modeling of wood products within the module Technologies of wood processing sub-module – Final wood processing. The following subjects are taught within the module Modeling of wood products: Modeling of wood products, Interior furnishing, Wood constructions in interior, Assurance of the quality of final products and History of furniture design The following subjects are taught within the sub-module Final wood processing: Technology of wood products in construction and wooden accessories, Surface treatment of exterior wood, Interior wood constructions, Assurance of the quality of final products and Automation of the varnishing process.

Since 2010, the name of the subject Descriptive geometry has been changed to Applied engineering graphics, and the elective subject Engineering Graphics was abolished. An independent module Technologies of wood processing – Final wood processing is introduced to master studies.

Since 2014, the subject Applied engineering graphics was once again named Descriptive geometry with technical drawing, and the number of lessons is increased, as well as for the subject Constructions of furniture and wood products. The subject Design of furniture and wood products transforms from an elective to a compulsory subject. The elective subject Engineering Graphics was reintroduced, the subject Introduction to methodical design was replaced by the subject Design of interior elements and the following new elective subjects appeared in the curriculum: Technologies of wooden houses production  and Technologies of construction joinery production.
